I don’t think management is really worried about this. United is hiring thousands and every month there are more people eligible to bid captain.
Whenever there is a new contract (I predict 2024), the seniority required to hold captain will increase. Therefore I predict some junior th pilots taking the plunge over the next few months in order to lock in their spot that they won’t be able to hold after the new contract.

take all comments with a healthy grain of management bias

I stand by my statements as factual without hopes and dreams of some mythical “leverage” some think we have.

Leverage is great....even extremely effective leverage like staffing 'United Next', but always remember that your adversary ALWAYS has options.

I didn’t quote you as the YES voter. I am referring to iahflyr. He adamantly defended that dog turd and encouraged us all to pull the trigger for fear of a recession.

Do you not remember the summer of 2000 and how that went?
There's absolutely a way they could absorb that. Nobody wants to go there right now, but if they have to slow/stop growing they will.

Nevermind that United faced 9/11, the Dot Com bust, SARs, and a little dust up in the desert. A little unknown secret management boy, it was the 10 worst years the INDUSTRY had seen.
