A message from a friend:
Gusty takeoff, heavy rain, heavy plane, short runway, and at night. Used flaps 20.
At accel height, CA (PF) called for flaps 5. FO went through the gate and selected flaps 1. When climb rate dissipated, CA looked over to see the lever and unknowingly banked over as well. CA became disoriented and neither pilot noticed the dive until the GPWS warning. 2.7Gs at 775’ AGL to recover.

jeeeesssusss. I don't think UAL would survive an accident like that.

One of two theories.
The first is the new challenge on TikTok how low can you get to the Pacific Ocean multiply by the number of Gs you pull to get out
The second one is the pilot flying was multitasked with setting his NDB frequency while leaning over to grab his en-route sectional chart and out of his kit bag and didn’t realize he was pushing the yoke down while he was doing it and losing altitude.

He did raise the flaps too far, and then fail to confirm what he did. I've done the former, but always caught it. According to the rumor above anyway.
Interesting if this comes down to a very low inexperienced FO and a 60+ CA.
Unless the 777 has some extra padding on load factor ratings they probably shouldn't have continued after a high-G event. Especially with flaps out.
