Garth Thompson as Master Chair

I'm lovin' this choice! Kudos to our MEC for finally putting the past behind them and using their brains and not their emotions.
Here's a tiny nugget that shows the attitude of our new MC:
pilot 1

. . . reassignments into days off should only happen when you can’t return to your base. Being reassigned on day 2 of 3 into a day off is crap, even if untriggered. It abrogates seniority. The restoration process is a joke, and should be immediate with zero financial penalty.
Garth's reply:
Completely agree!
A few weeks ago I was reassigned on day 1 of a 3 day trip into a day off (on Saturday). The reassignment had me passing through my domicile on day 3. But the scheduler said she was instructed to add on a day because it was legal.
I’m not voting for any TA that allows such a reassignment. And I’m still fuming that the failed TA would have made lineholder reassignments easier.

Fellow United-ALPA Pilots,
Today, the UAL-MEC elected me to serve as your Master Chair in a unanimous 19-0 vote. Such an act of unity and compromise leaves me profoundly honored and grateful. I am also humbled to lead the United side of ALPA, whose many dedicated pilot-volunteers and staff represent and protect our careers and families.
January 31 marks the four year anniversary of the United Pilot Agreement's amendable date. As this dubious day comes and goes, the UAL-MEC will be in session finalizing direction to the Negotiating Committee. Soon thereafter, a comprehensive and aggressive proposal will be passed to the Company.
We've all heard of or witnessed United executives claiming they are ready to conclude negotiations toward an industry leading Agreement. This pilot has noted the increasing boldness and frequency of their assertions. We'll soon understand the extent of their sincerity. Your union will be prepared for what is learned.
With all respect,
Captain Garth Thompson
UAL-MEC Chair

He gets it. He's been out there in the trenches, hauling the mail, moving our Passengers...Flying the Line~
I truly have faith in our Union again that we WILL see an ILC23 before the summer. And if not, this Union will call Shenanigans. This guy has been around (along with many others within the Union) and the time is NOW, to pay up~

Not making any excuses for that mess of a contract but when it came out, the bar for what was “industry leading” was mostly theoretical. With Delta’s negotiations progressing toward completion, one can no longer just slap that claim on anything. The industry standard has already passed us, so unless we’re going to exceed Delta, we can’t pretend to be “leading”.

Is it rates or total value? I guarantee you the same actors will be screaming time value of money which points to the former. Are we returning to hypothetical add pay schemes to value our contract or will we utilize clear, precise, and quantifiable improvements? Is it industry leading for all or only for certain carve outs who can benefit?
