Junior CLE 737 FO is around a 12/2022 hire who was awarded it in the last vacancy.

Looking to make a move from SWA after 6 years and trying to figure out some things.

Thanks.
1) Reserve is quite different between the two planes for 2 primary reasons. First the 787 does very little domestic flying and mostly very long haul stuff DEL, JNB, CPT, and TLV, where as the 777 does domestic hub to hub, Hawaii, Europe, and Asia so reserves on the 787 go mostly long haul but 777 reserves see mostly domestic with some red eyes and some Europe occasionally. Second the 787 flight hours are properly aligned with the staffing at the moment so reserves tend to actually get trips. Currently the 777 is over staffed for the amount of flying so reserves see little actual flying, but see below as I believe personally this will change come spring.

2) The sad reality is that the Crew Desk converts LC to SC a lot. It varies considerably from individual to individual, but if one goes into the situation expecting 5 or more SC's one will be happy if one gets only 3 or 4. For the record I have been on reserve on the 777 since 4/22 and never had more than 4 SC's in one month. Obviously if you live local as I do this isn't an issue, but if you commute it's a bummer.

3) At present the 787 trips are predominantly 3 and 4 days although there are some 5 day trips as well. The 777 is at the moment heavily flying 6 day W's like EWR-NRT-SFO-NRT-EWR or EWR-FRA-SFO-FRA-EWR, but this is not the historic norm for the fleet and my personal guess is that come spring IF the 777 actually starts flying to China again then the fleet will return to predominantly 3 and 4 day trips.

Lastly, there is now enormous movement and the last bid had EWR 777 FO's at 50% in base after 2 years (someone correct me if I'm wrong) meaning how long 'til holding a line is greatly in flux and enormously hard to predict. Suffice to say if the current trend were to continue then EWR 777 FO's will continue to advance quickly and it will be months to a line not years, BUT as in all else with this career this could change in the proverbial "blink of an eye". I can't speak to the 787 as I haven't looked, but given the expected continued growth in the fleet plus the overall hiring I would expect much the same there.

In EWR 3 year seniority is about 70 percent in base.

Thanks for that. I was basing my comment on what I thought an FO told me on a recent trip. Probably mis-remembering - Old Timer's disease, hah!

Now I look and see 50% is 9578 seniority on the last vacancy bid summary. Anyone know what hire date that represents?

To double down on how volatile things are right now in the EWR WB base, Feb EWR 777 flying shows an 11% increase over January. It should trend that direction as we pick up Doha (?) in March but it's still kind of crazy guessing what's gonna happen month to month.

EWR is wild right now. They can't keep NB FOs there as new hires bid out, making the NB categories artificially senior compared to what they would be otherwise. I'm at about 9 months on property and CCS says that today in EWR, I'd be 78% on the 737, 79% on the 756, and 79% on the 777.

Can someone compare a hypothetical month on reserve on the 777 versus 787 in ewr? Also-how far away would den 78 be? Thanks

current Denver 78 FO is a bit under 1.5 years. You’d be on reserve for 267 years, though.
