Why are load planners a thing?

If you fly anything smaller than a 50 seat RJ, doesn't seem like it's a thing. He probably doesn't realize the amounts of money involved in a large cargo operation.

DL does the same. About 8 prior to push we get a message that tells us we are OK to push or If we are close to a limiting weight it will say stay at gate until we get final numbers. I assume UA and AA have a similar setup.

No I definitely was on the other side of that argument. That guy was some idiot who flies for foreign carrier who said it wasn't a big deal to takeoff above MTOW.
Either way, legal or not, it would be nice if ya'll could get your ducks in a row before you block the taxiway to the runway,
signed,
the rest of the industry (minus American).

Anyway, this practice is industry standard for decades. Everyone does it, except for maybe one airline. Time to get over it…if there is anything to get over.
