Last night I jumped awake to a voice like thunder. I opened my eyes to see a brilliant figure sitting in the armchair next to my bed in the hotel room. His face was brilliant white and his hair shined like silvered shards of glass in the sun. His eyes burned blue as torches and when he spoke the fabrics in the room shuddered as if tossed by a great wind. In his left hand was an iPad and in his right was a touch-pen.
When he saw that I was awake he turned to me and said, "There will be a new hire and he shall be called the 8-ball. You shall place him in the highest office from which he shall bring together pilots of all cliques and fleets, and he shall bring to the company a great ask, and it will be granted to you."
"He?", I said. He brought his touch pen across his chest and placed it on the iPad. "You shall know him by this number." I looked and that moment the iPad became brighter than a flash bulb. I was blinded and while I could not see I felt a harsh wind and heard something like the building shifting on its foundation. My sight returned to an empty chair, the figure departed.
What does this mean? Why did he visit me?

Seriously though I agree, and hope we can find new blood to lead the future.

And that's what is fundamentally wrong with this place. A couple funny memes, a disparaging remark, a pilot gone rogue to the media and we can easily discount a group. Hell, if that's not anti inclusion I don't know what is.
I'll tell you what is. I'm ****ed. I haven't had a true contract in 22 years. I'm ****ed that we're still paying for the bankruptcy of 20 years ago. I've had every group known to humanity pick my pocket until I bleed. If they aren't picking my pocket, they're stepping on my back to personally promote themselves or protect their family finances due to a misfortunate lot in life. (honest to god I'm not opposed to helping those truly in need)
The quote I've heard over the years is "You can afford it". Management said you pilots can afford to take a greater percentage of pay cuts in bankruptcy over other groups. Pilots have said you can afford to take a pay cut to prevent my supposed furlough. Every time my career gets slashed. Over and over.
Well, management, you can afford to pay me for the decisions I make daily with the lives of hundreds of families in my hands and three hundred million dollar assets under my control. Pilots, you can afford to stop the never ending, mind numbing bull #%^# and finally stand for this profession with integrity and fortitude.
Pick the one dude or dudette who is going to stand up for everyone. He or she might be no 1 or 14001 on the list but please, pick one that has the skills to promote this profession and get the best possible outcome for US ALL!
Obtw.... We shouldn't pay for management's gamble. Start a furlough fund now to protect those who are in need. When management threatens to furlough, and they eventually will, we have the wherewithal to not only make it contractually difficult but also to protect our fellow pilots who need financial assistance.

I’m “old guard,” but I‘m all for the movement to go post merger. There are a lot of incredible volunteers and committee folks that do great work, but to pretend that there aren’t cliques and tribes whose personal aspirations/issues can’t be separated from their professional ones is, has never been more apparent.
Time for the next generation to step forward. It’s not just about the next contract, it’s about the next generation getting engaged and understanding the importance of a functional collective bargaining unit.
There are a lot of users here I respect who’ve taken the Machiavellian stance of “the devils I know,” or “they’re not perfect, but they’ll fight for us.” I urge you to have more faith in the new folks and to hold all of ourselves to a higher standard than has been on display lately.
