Just a casual unsolicited observation from a Delta guy. It's really interesting reading this thread and noting the difference between how Delta guys view improving reserve vs United guys. At Delta there's a lot of support for improving reserve (which is already pretty good at Delta), but here there's seemingly zero. I wonder why there's such a difference?
Not ONE pilot that I’ve met has stated they don’t want to “fix” the reserve rules. Not one.
Our ****ty reserve rules are the reason why we can fill Left Seat vacancies.
But therein lies the question- whose “responsibility” is it? The Pilot Group/union or managements?
Every United Pilot on property understands what needs fixing. Problem is, most hired in the past 10 years know the issues with current reserve rules, but may not understand the issues with other parts of the UPA that ALSO need fixing, ie..sick leave, LTD, Vacation credit, trip/duty rigs, retirement and of course.. PAY.
Our union tried to push the narrative that starting reserve on day 1 at 6am for an hour of Add Pay was a good thing. I Have NEVER met one commuter who wanted that, asked for that, or was voting YES for that.
Hopefully we will see good improvements in reserve, along with many other parts of our UPA.
If the company truly wants to be the leader of the pack, they HAVE TO LEAD.
Your (if you are a Delta Pilot) AIP sounds pretty good. But we have to wait till the TA to really get to the meat & potato part.
Hopefully ours will mirror yours (with some slight changes).
If not, I expect more pilots to pass on the upgrade, those with less than a few years here to jump ship and those with dual interviews to choose Delta.
Always

I have literally run into two pilots in the last three days who are leaving United for another airline (cough*Delta*) due to our reserve rules and “contract ineptitude”.
