I am not quite sure you are comparing apples. The 18 hour long call referred to in this thread is the time you have to report after the company notifies you off a trip assignment. How long is your min time to report after notification at Frontier? 18 hours means when you sit down to dinner at 6 PM you know the company can’t use you until noon the next day. The other good thing is you have no obligation to be phone available. You need only check your schedule or messages often enough to insure you can report in any 18 hour rolling time frame. If you need 4 hours to report you need only check messages or your schedule every 14 hours.

As a commuter I wouldn't mind narrow body 5 day trips if they were descent credit and commutable on both sides. If I'm going to do a non commutable 4 day trip(a 5 day trip for a commuter) and pay for a hotel room I might as well try to get paid for the commute day and the hotel.
But I understand pilots living in base want nothing to do with 5 day trips.

the UPA limits domestic pairings to 4 duty periods only. So the company can build a 5 day trip, but it would include a 30 hour layover somewhere in it.
Is it any wonder why they haven’t when a 4 day trip is already hard to cover?

The reason for this is that the Crew Desk needs to know that the pilot understands that they have been assigned a trip and the crew Desk is therefore assured that the trip is covered. We also refer to this principle as positive contact.

Just to be clear to any half wingers or others, that's not how UAL currently operates. Maybe this is in the DL AIP/TA as I believe this poster works there, but at UAL, you are always expected to return the crew Desk call within a reasonable amount of time. They will not consider a 14 hour delay in calling back as used in the above example reasonable. You will receive a UTC / missed trip and be deducted 4:03, value of a reserve day.
