Doesn't AAL have a system where you can designate yourself as a "want to be called"? It's something like being stacked via seniority and they start at the top until they hit a "please call me". If they get to the bottom of the list and don't have a volunteer they start back up starting with lowest seniority. Something like that sounds like a zero cost to the company improvement to reserve.

DAL currently has that same sort of thing. You can request to fly, and also request to fly with certain parameters, such as “I would like to volunteer to fly but only for this specific rotation.”

THIS!
It's actually pretty easy to do, just Software.
Everyone can (should) designate IF they want to fly.. or if they rather wait (ie.. have something going on and would rather let someone else fly!

The problem I see them saying is that it will be too confusing. Somehow other airlines make it work- yet the company that wants to be the "Industry Leader" can't.. lol

We have the ability to have designated Short Call PBS lines, it's in the Contract (UPA). Yet they don't do in as it would be a positive QoL issue for the pilots and they may have to pay a few hours more to a handful of pilots. They would rather place pilots on SC at their whim.. and if not used twice, they owe an hour.

**Min 16hr (18hr preferred) LSR callout, Start at 1200 on day one (able to select at 0800 callout for AddPay), 14 max duty limit, at least 10% reserve able to bid SC lines, min 13 days off a month (14 on 31 day months)**

Just spitballing (NOT Negotiating in public.. lol)
It is important that everyone start looking at the ALPA Contract Comparison PDF's.. to see what our fellow pilots have, and what they are trying to get.
OUR Reserve section needs work!

Always

Default United or Delta CJO

Off subject but received CJO from delta and united. Currently 27 years old living in CMH. Plan on staying in Ohio for the time being. What would be my best option long term for maximum pay and qol?

Maybe you should have gotten your name in the hat to become a rep and find your way onto the NC…. Lol.

At this point, 18 hour fallout is the minimum. Yes a 13/14 day off minimum should be required. Yes we need limits on the SC conversion.

Lots of good points here. Hopefully, reserve rules improvement don’t fall on deaf ears.

Dig up 1 cubic yard of dirt from your place in Ohio. Buy a place in base, sprinkle the dirt around the house, and say you're living in Ohio while you drive to work.

All joking aside, commuting will always be less than maximum pay/QOL 99.995% of the time than living in base. And the effects are cumulative over your entire career. It can add up to a LOT of money and a LOT less stress over the long run.

If you can't move, you can't move, but you have to understand that does come with a significant penalty.

Someone retiring today hired at 27 would have started in 1984. Potentially at Pan Am or Braniff, or eastern or TWA, or Allegheny or Piedmont, or PSA, all of which were mainline carriers at the time. And they would’ve fully expected to retire in 2017 at age 60.

Nobody knows. My advice would be take the first class.

CLE 73 FO. Commuting sucks. They’d need to double my pay or unscrew these reserve rules to get me to feel differently.
