To be honest, east coast WB flying is great for commuting. Most flights to Europe leaves in the late afternoon/evenings and get back early afternoons. You have your exceptions….

But yeah, I feel for east coast new hires that stuck on the SFO 777 and had trouble getting out of there. Desperate times calls for desperate measures in those circumstances.
What’s it like commuting for Global Reserve? I have heard it’s literally impossible or just brutal.

Take out the word Global. Global trips have nothing to do with reasons for one to commute to a base. Commuting for a domestic or international trips is the exact same thing. Same with SC assignments. I’d even say Basic reserve commuting could be worse. Because Basic reserve has a lot more FSB. Basic has earlier SC start times too.

This right here is the answer. It’s the same as commuting to non-global. It’s not tricky at all.. It’s the frustration of knowing that can company roll you into days off and the LCR to SCR conversion. I haven’t see FSB yet on Global Reserve nor have i seen it to assigned to anyone in my category so far. I say the most stressful part has been the winter pull down of the schedule affecting my commute to EWR, once I get down to DCA, that stress goes away.

I'd guess being a junior 787 FO living less than an hour from ORD wouldn't be a bad gig, and you might end up with more time at home than a lot of others.

It’s the best way to do reserve but until we get some contractual restraints on SCs and FSB you’ll still be getting the 3 am calls cancelling your SC to roll you into another. Beats the hell out of commuting to reserve but it needs to get drastically better.
