Default Union bashing

Some of you people need to either run for office to fix what you’re upset about or **** and gtfo. Our union may not be perfect but they are our union and I appreciate their efforts, even the ones who are slightly misguided.

A lot of it I’m sure is out of frustration. Understandingly so. Pushing two TAs, selling the members far short, while not being as transparent as they could be. A lot of much wasted time that many of these pilots don’t have. We pay incredible amounts of dues each year for great representation. Many feel, including myself, that they are not operating on the level expected of them.

Who's bashing? My union negotiated a concessionary contract and then turned around and tried to sell it to me. I've lost any faith I had in their ability to look out for my interests. I don't have to step up and volunteer, I've done that plenty in the past, I pay my dues.

Because I pay my dues, I don't have to be quiet. I deserve better than the crappy representation I've received. Not angry, just disappointed.

And working harder for less, thanks, ALPA!

So recall votes have been initiated the lead negotiator of the Tumi resigned, what more do you want? How about you come back and be a part of the team instead of simping for SK?

Personally I would like to see much stronger verbiage in the union comms and a much more adversarial position from the union. I would also like full transparency as to what they are negotiating; what “QOL improvements” did they make after TA1? What was the value of the offer they just pulled? I want to see a push towards a strike authorization and mediation.

I have also completely lost faith in our union. Everyone even remotely close to the TUMI needs to step down. Every email is further confirmation how little they understand this pilot group.

Spot on OP.

People on here write 'ALPA' like its some headless dark organization that is only out there to steal money from your paycheck and put it in their own pockets. What they completely miss is that the reps were duly elected by the pilots here themselves and really represent the group as a whole. One the the greatest benefits of ALPA is also its greatest downside, it largely represents the group who elected it. Garbage in garbage out.

Ironically the people complaining about ALPA are really just reflecting on themselves and the pilot group at a whole.

Look in a mirror.

My reps voted it down. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I can’t control who the other councils elect.

..and that is kind of the point. Its the democratic process at work. It isn't a clean way of doing things, you have disagreements and arguments, but end of the day one guy isn't forcing the thing on you. People act like the line pilots have no control over everything, but after the actions surrounding TA1 (by elected pilot reps) they were by in largely promptly recalled. Literally a perfect example of how ALPA is a democratic organization and how the pilots are in complete control.

People complaining about ALPA messing the deal up is like complaining your back hurts after you tried to lift a car by yourself. Yeah, it sucks, but there's a deeper reason it happened.

I am not saying ALPA is blameless, recall reps, get new MEC officers in there, whatever, but stop complaining and look in the mirror snowflakes. We are not going to get a deal done with constant in-fighting and standing in a circle pointing fingers at each other.

Unfortunately the smart people that would be good in these jobs realize the thankless job that it is and hours of personal time it will absorb. You will spend hours of your night on the phone explaining how someones conspiracy theory on xyz isn't accurate only to see them post the same mistruths on an online forum the very next day. The people who are left wanting this job are the politician type, the power hungry or the conspiracy theorist from the above example. I am all for service but we have lost control of the vocal minority at meetings and online discussions are filled with vitriol and very little touching on reality. It isn't just our association either.
