You’re accusing me of saying the opposite of what you quoted me. Intelligent people understand there are many considerations that make pay percentage numbers of greater or lesser value that must all ultimately be considered. Yes, some take an overly simplistic approach to pay percentages, but talking numbers can be useful provided it’s accompanied by the understanding that they live on a sliding scale.
My frustration is that many who are advocating lower percentages are also generally advocating a lower total package. It’s not “let’s take a lower rate & make sure the total package beats them by 10%”; more like “let’s come in slightly below them on pay & try to get one or two other things”.

You’ve said it in multiple posts that 13% wouldn’t cut it. You’d have to go line by line in their new pay bands to see how that works in every category, but at the top end of our scale, it meets it. A me-too beats it. So at the end of the day, most people probably want more money and if we’re getting the most of the legacies would be content with that paycheck. However, there will still be people that say the 5% was already negotiated and any less than 18% will be a no, despite that exceeding Delta by 5%. If the union comes in at 5% of Delta and the company agrees that’s great, but I sure hope we aren’t giving up the rest of the contract to do so.
Meeting Delta’s offer would be a big win along with improving our contract along the lines where Delta’s is better. Ours is better in many areas as well, even under the current book.

Delta guy here lurking. I just want to say I agree with this 100%, and we (DAL pilots) owe you all a thank you for raising the bar on what management sees as an acceptable agreement. I don’t know if this AIP will become our contact, and it doesn’t matter as this is now the new minimum. I hope UAL and AA can use this and pattern bargain even higher.
