Ughh hope it’s a bad rumor. 200 of one type, if there ever is a grounding (777PW DC-10 and I believe 787 after it came on line) we be screwed.
The 787 isn’t a 777! Doesn’t ride as well especially in turbulence and it’s smaller airplane. But at least the 777-300 is relatively new and has lots of years left vs 777-200’s.
What about more 777-300’s production line still open and I’m sure we could negotiate favorable prices?

Boeing has come out and said no new planes most likely until the 2030s. Aviation Week thinks they will come out with something before then as they are getting their arse handed to them by Airbus. Not only is the 321 selling like hotcakes, but the A220-500 variant is being talked about as when not if (it will target the 737-8 MAX and be way more efficient). Airbus has to time it so as not to cannibalize the A320 series too early. The 737-7 and -10 Maxs did not get grandfathered in or around the congress mandated EICAS add (still remains to be seen if they can get an end run) in the new defense bill. BA still has a chance but the odds are stacking up and not in their favor.
We have a huge amount of -10s on order, and SWA has something similar in the -7. No -10 Max and UAL has to either buy -9s or Busses (or both). SWA will have to leave the 737 eventually and will be courted by BA and EADS heavily.
The 767 and the 777 (I believe) both age out due to emissions in 2027. No more pax / freight versions of either after that date, however Uncle Sammy will still be buying the KC-46 (chicken nugget 767 variant) for years.
The interesting thing to me is the 787 is not a "perfect" replacement for the 777. I would not be surprised to see big 787 buy to cover the lower end of the 777s (smallest / oldest versions) as well as the 767. I think a follow on order will be to cover the "rest" of the 777s and could be either a 777x or A350. My guess is SK would prefer the 777x for common type rating and not have to run two different fleets (A350 / 777) while the oldest times out (777). Too many fleet types.
Side note is the 787s are being purchased so as not to add a fleet type to replace the 767s as well.
Flame away, but this is only my opinion.
Cheers

It’s an awesome airplane as long as you don’t have to fly with guys that sit up there with their raging Boeing hard one and wax nostalgic the whole time. It kinda kills stage length though. You may find yourself wanting to dial back the Mach number a couple digits. Haha
