Bummer. Sorry to hear that. Its a pilot's market. You'll get scooped up by somebody sooner rather than later. Keep trying and keep the faith.

Snapshot 2 still 229 unfilled CAs. Every Base besides CLE, GUM and IAH has unfilled NB CAs. Plus 60 777 FO slots in SFO 6 in EWR. Crazy times….

When that happens, upgrade will be more appealing than just flying a published right seat line.
Big if, but yes, if the PP stays dry for a longer while that will probably help sell more upgrade slots. Pay is a piece of the puzzle- not everything, but not nothing, either. Upgrading almost always involves trading off some relative seniority & bidding power; no way around that. Along with addressing QOL issues, I think there is room to increase the disparity in FO/CA pay to make that seniority hit feel like a better trade off.

When you consider the international override WB pilots get, it’s a 13.7% difference in pay between WB FO and NB CA. That’s not that much considering the QOL difference.

If NB CA paid $400 an hour they wouldn’t have unfilled vacancies. I’d put up with the lifestyle if the money was that good. But it’s not, and I won’t. I go to TK for downgrade training next month.

I was a 737 CA for 4 years

13.7% compared to RSV CA or LH CA?

Been NB CA since 19. on the Bubble for G-line, so 50/50 LH and Reserve. In short, Trips (layovers/productivity/legs) have remarkably deteriorated since I upgraded. Reserve absolutely SUCKS! No such thing as long call any more. I don’t even care about CA $ any longer….it’s not worth the crappy lifestyle hits.
Will likely go to WB FO (IN BASE) and earn almost same pay and improve QOL. I think NB community (especially Bus) is in for a rough lifestyle ride from this point forward, as I believe this regional flying is here to stay. Short of tempting pay increases and work rule improvements, It’s no surprise there are large numbers of unfilled vacancies.

Pay rate.

$244 (international override) vs $282. And it’s 13.4%, now that I’ve done the math.

As a senior WB FO I can still credit 90 hours a month if I choose to, versus forced 90 hour lines I’ve been getting on the 737. The October WB FO lines are a thing of beauty.

Even though I’ll probably be taking home less money, 1) the difference isn’t that great and 2) I did 32 legs this month. I only want to do that in a year, with a bunk.

the pay difference is much more at the lower end of the pay scale (like year 2 NBCA vs year 2 WBFO). I suspect a lot of year 2/3 CA upgrades for the money, then back down to WBFO after the 2 year lock.

I feel bad for the junior peeps. I’ve been here 15 years, 45% in the company, and even I’ve had enough of what the last year has done to NB flying.

Bingo!!!! Don’t forget the nice 401k bump for 2 years…maxing out in June vs. Oct. makes a difference….
