209 Unfilled Captain bids
#91
If I were a new hire(greater than 1 year) and a newly minted 737 Captain I wouldn't see anything wrong with me making the same as a 777 captain. "Sign me up coach" . I'll have 35 year career making top of the pay scale(other then the paltry $2 a year longevity bump) "I mean why shouldn't the current 777 capt subsidize my windfall? He has been riding the gravy train....time for him to retire already!!!" <sarc>

Wait, so the COVID LOA wasn’t enough for you all? Enjoy your windfall of one year upgrade and get your grubby hands off of my wide body paycheck.

Also, as previously stated, you have to remember what the now senior pilots have already been through. We don't have a 401K with 30 years of deposits. Our A plan was to be the primary retirement vehicle, the B plan was to be on top of the primary--which is now only pennies on the dollar through the PBGC, (UAL side.) There is a reason the senior guys want the money, still trying to come up with the retirement we thought we had--and to pay for all those ex-wives!!
To complicate all this, there are now a lot more junior guys voting on the potential TA than senior. There is great potential for a skewed pay structure in the TA to rectify the vacant Capt problem. But.....as is now being fought over--through recalls and the failed TA, the negotiating committee is historically made up of more senior pilots. Also, historically, they have not favored one seniority group over another. We'll see.
Yes, we live in interesting times.

Based on Sept Staffing, our last guy on the Merged Seniority List now has 6762 pilots behind him!
He's (roughly) 8200ish on the list so I would wager a guess that there are about 7500ish pilots from the Two Legacy Voting, and about 5000ish PMH's Voting.
Tide is definitely turning (as it should be!) but will be interesting to see which way our Union wants to point the boat!
As you stated, the things that the 2 Legacies gave up (Stolen?) is immense. And while it's great to see 2 year Captains.. it comes at a price.
TA23 will have to address both side, with a campaign of Communication/Education that ya don't Vote for a Contract based on where you sit now. You need to look Big Picture and think of where you're going~

Just an interesting point as I figured that this would be the last Contract I Vote on where the Legacy pilots (Senior?!) still outnumbered the Post Merger Hires..

But in my opinion, the next MEC Chair needs to be a LINE PILOT first!
On top of that, having experience as both an FO, and then a Captain and maybe having commuted at some point is also important.
I understand what you're saying but understand that just because someone is from a "Legacy", doesn't mean he/she is of the Old Guard or BS.
I'm running for C5 Sec Treas and my opponent (Steve S) is a good guy from what I can tell. I actually wish he was running for Capt Rep as I feel he'd make a GREAT Capt Rep. But it is what it is.
We have an opportunity to put some new blood into our LEC's, and then the MEC. Won't happen overnight or in the next few weeks/months.
But we should ALL be in this for the long run.
Lets not dismiss someone just because of which side or when they were hired.
