Plus good luck buying planes for the next 5 years.

By the end of 2025 a pilot hired at United in 2021 will have 10,000 pilots junior to them.
Lol what kind of Kool Aid do they serve over at UAL if you believe a pilot hired last year will have 10k pilots below them in 2025? 🤣

The economy is also taking a massive dump and we’ll be chin-deep in a recession by March of next year. New plane orders can be cancelled, deferred, old planes can be parked. Once this period of revenge travel passes, expect demand to plummet as people exhaust their Covid savings and suddenly realize how worthless their income has become in the last 16-18 months and they start to struggle with affording the basics.
This guy gets it. No chance any airline is going to continue and hire 2k pilots a year for the next 3-4 years.

I think the reason that people are skeptical of hiring 8,000 in the next few years has nothing to do with United’s ability to train that many over the next four years. They’ve proven they can ramp up training. However, a few things have changed since hiring was initially ramped up. The market for pilots is extremely different than what it once was. The pool of qualified candidates is diminishing at a rapid clip. Every airline has a couple empty seats in class. Every airline has new hires from a different legacy in class. Going forward, it’s just going to be more difficult to max out training like was done in the past. And if another TA proposal that has little changes from the last one, that will only exacerbate the problem.

Every category except SFO 787 CA. I bet there are 200 unfilled NB Captain vacancies on this bid. Going to be a lot of movement and training caused.

i wish there were a forum like button. Guppy gives me nightmares and I’ve been on it 10 years. Couldn’t imagine a full career in that retro jet.

14 yrs. Lol. It’s 8.5 now and trending down to 6.5 by next year.

Longer than at the legacies, but we have a single fleet type/pay scale….people don’t need to choose QOL over garbage rsv rules and commuting to the coast.
