Default Check you Hertz reservations

I have been a long time customer of Hertz car rental using the employee discount code shown in Flying Together. I have found the rates to often (not always) be dramatically lower than I can find with other rental companies. In Hawaii this winter, rates were about 1/4 what I could find with other companies.

I booked a car in November for last week in Denver for a vacation with my nieces. It was $500 for 9 days, including taxes and fees. Since I have the Hertz Gold membership, you don’t sign any paperwork when you pick up the car, just show your drivers license and go. A few days after picking the car up, I looked at the rental agreement they gave me at pickup and saw the price was $850. When I got home, I called Hertz and they did not see the $500 rate, only the $850 one. They said they could only honor the rate if I could send them my email confirmation. Fortunately I still had it, and Hertz corrected the bill and issued a refund within a few days.

I have another reservation next month in Rapid City and the rate shown when I check my reservation has more than doubled. And I no longer have that confirmation, so Hertz won’t honor the rate. It is still a decent rate so I’m keeping it, but it isn’t the great deal I had before.

Just beware if you have a Hertz car rental booked using the employee discount code shown on Flying Together.

Hertz is in the news for getting customers arrested, spending nights in jail, standing in front of a judge for fictional car theft when in reality they never scanned the car back in when you dropped it off. People, do not use Hertz.

This wasn’t meant to be anti-Hertz. I generally am happy with their services, much happier than some other rental companies. And I’ve seen those articles about people being arrested, but when doing some research it turns out that the news report doesn’t tell the whole story. I know that’s shocking to many of you…. Kind of like Dr. Dao, it shouldn’t have happened, but he wasn’t just some innocent, compliant passenger that did nothing wrong either.

Actually, a lot of the hundreds of customers in the class action lawsuit were indeed innocent and "compliant." I use the hertz discount often, but it is a concern.

A few years ago I got pulled over in an Enterprise rental because it had been registered as stolen. I had just left the airport with it. Sure enough Enterprise had filed a report and registered it as stolen from a delayed return with a previous customer then instead of fix anything they put the car back into the rental fleet.

All these car rental places have issues. Tbh, I’ve had the most consistent good experiences with Hertz. Gold membership with our discount is usually an unbeatable combo.
