Greece vs Iceland
Wonder who thought this was a better idea than delaying the flight overnight.
The best line was this
“United’s alternatives were limited: either despatch the flight with a stopover for a crew change or transfer the crew to a hotel for rest and try again the following day. United chose the latter choice and prepared a brand-new crew from the United States to meet the aircraft in Iceland.”

After the past year of airline disruption and (often deserved) negative press coverage. Many passengers are hard wired to see every inconvenience as a personal attack. Long-haul flights by nature are very vulnerable to delays like maintenance or weather. Occasionally this is what it takes to keep the operation running. Everyone got home earlier than they would have if the airline had taken the “inside the box” approach & just released the crew into rest. Non-story.
If on the other hand, the crew swap in Iceland did not go smoothly as was reported, that’s on the airline.

It seems that the delay in KEF was because they had a child get sick and had to use parts of a medical kit. Most of the delay was because the kit was mandatory, they couldn’t differ it, and it took a while to find a new one.
