Personal Cell Phone Text Reassignment LOA
Has anyone else seen the new LOA 22-03 that goes into effect on August 1, 2022 where ALPA agrees to help the company with reassignments via text messages?
They have EFBs with global coverage, but now they want to text pairing changes to my personal phone?
It’s in the TA.

Yeah, saw it several days ago. It includes: “A voluntary (i.e., ‘opt in’) notification system”. So, nothing to see here. If it’s voluntary (a pilot doesn’t have to participate unless he wants to, the company can’t make him, we have control if we want to use it, etc) then what is the issue for you? If you don’t want to use it, then don’t. For those of us who are open to moving into the 21st century and not waiting on hold, let us iron out the details and push back if/when they are inadequate.

My point is the company has issued EFBs with unlimited 5G global access. Now they want to use my personal phone that may or may not work in all countries.
As it stands, the company has all the IT they need to make notifications worldwide. I would expect my union to enforce when EXACTLY I am required to check my work device for work assignments.
Just another quality of life give away to lump into this turf of a TA.

2. Do you carry your EFB around with you on your last day off of reserve? When you’re at the beach sitting LSR?
3. The current practice is for CM to call your personal phone to notify you. Now, based on this voluntary program (I feel like I have to keep repeating the voluntary part) they can send an electronic message to the same device you currently use to answer the aforementioned phone call. For some pilots that may opt-in to this program, using an app may be more convenient than letting the CM call go to VM, listening to the VM, checking their schedule for legalities, calling CM back to wait on hold just to acknowledge an assignment.
4. It’s voluntary.

It's great 👍. I can't see why you wouldn't sign up, personally. I just had a 65 minute turn in Denver that turned into 135 minutes due to an untriggered reassignment. Without these texts I wouldn't have been notified until the replacement crew, who was running late, stepped into the cockpit. But thanks for the advance notice I was able to secure a good meal at Wolfgang Puck and actually have time to enjoy it. Huge QOL improvement. Oh, and no listening to hold music with crew scheduling either 😊. Some guys still say we shouldn't have voted in contract 2022 but honestly these text messages make it a net positive. Cheers!

Are you currently reimbursed for your home phone and/or cell phone bill? I’ll say again: It’s voluntary.
