Default Council 5 Vice Chairman TA Message -

Chris McCullough
Vice Chairman

June 29, 2022Pilots of Council 5,

I want you all to know that as your Vice Chairman and First Officer Representative, I am fully in support of this TA and that I voted to send it to you for ratification. To fully understand my reasoning, please read the Pro letter found on the MEC website and in your inboxes.

While Glenn and I have always tried to vote as a united front on the important matters before us, after spending many hours reviewing this TA and after long discussions, we simply could not agree on our support of the agreement.

I want you to know that I completely respect Glenn’s opinions, as he does mine, and I understand where he is coming from.

When we approved the UPA Extension Agreement in 2016, we took significant pay raises but left a lot of UPA problems unfixed. This TA fixes most of those problems.

The improvements to reserve work rules, the creation of Overtime Pay and the Market Based Cash Balance Plan are just a few of the real QOL improvements for all of our pilots.

While we all would like to see higher pay increases, I truly believe our negotiators have achieved the best agreement we can in terms of overall value to the pilot group in this economic environment. The two-year term is unprecedented and will allow us to roll right back into negotiations with openers in October of 2023 (15 months from now).

We have a chance to reset the broken model of negotiations, which drag on for years past amendable dates, usually ending up under the auspices of the NMB, and leaving years of un-unrealized value for the pilots in the company coffers. If we can achieve a two-year contract cycle and use the power of the LOA to capture value in the midterm, we can get more contract value in OUR pockets, not management’s.

I urge each of you to view the materials put out for your education. Make your decision based on the facts before you and not a lot of overheated emotional rhetoric.

Just curious. What’s his seniority, what equipment is he on, is he a line holder or reserve, and what type of CA could he hold, and most important, how many years does he have left?

Surely he represents the 26 year old reserve NB FO newlywed or new hire with a pregnant wife as a commuter in EWR with absolute understanding of what their life is like.

lolol increasing the pace at which inept union “leaders” screw over their constituents doesn’t seem like it would be a good thing.

Why do these reps think the company is going to get us a contract on time EVER. We will be stuck with this for the next 4-5 years with no leverage. Get rid of this clown

Andy,

Agreed. I don’t mean to sound like a broken record. But, lets all make sure we do our part to make sure this TA is voted down and hopefully by a large margin.

Chris’ letter is dishonest and offensive. I hope he is removed from any political power at ALPA for the rest of his career.

Maybe I'm slow but, how is he going(or is this going) to ..."reset the broken model of negotiations, which drag on for years past amendable dates"? I understand it may be only a 2 year deal, but what specifically will preclude a the next one for "dragging on for years past" that 2 year amendable date?

I wasn’t aware our negotiating model was broken, or most negotiations go the NMB?

Like others in our LEC/MEC Chris has been involved as a Rep for way too many years. He was a part of our merger contract as the JFK LEC S/T 10 plus years ago and has been the 005 FO Rep for at least the last 6 years I believe. We need a lot of new blood, way to
much Stockholm Syndrome with some Reps and numerous key MEC committee members.
