We told them, did they not listen?
It's a simple weighing of the scales thing for me. I’m on RSV and I commute. This deal will pay me more (and as we’ve established not enough to keep up with inflation) but it will have a huge negative impact on my quality of life. Nobody gave direction for the RSV system to give a concession of any kind – it was simply supposed to IMPROVE because right now it sucks. And who suggested that higher medical costs are OK? I don’t think that was pilot direction at all – quite the opposite. And did the sick leave system improve at all? None – zero. Except now you’re on the hook for COVID-19 because those protections go away. Where did we tell them to do something/anything with FO landing currency? Same goes for scope – what pilot poling suggested that scope concessions were OK? But did vacation improve? Nope, and that was a top item in pilot polling.
So I’m trying to figure out who the heck the negotiators were listening to? Who were they representing because they did ask us and we did respond, but the concessions in this deal don't seem to reflect the actual feedback we gave them. So who? The company? 😳 WTF?
The more I thought about it the more negative I drifted. I could actually understand a deal of pure gets that underwhelmed given the economic environment we are in, but a deal with concessions? It reminded me of a past deal that some ALPA guy called me about trying to get me to vote Yes on, “Oly it’s a good deal. It’s like giving them two bucks to get ten back.” I replied, “Then just give me 8 bucks.” We did vote that deal down and got some gets without giving them anything because the company had needs. It was only the second time in my career that I can recall (?) the pilots voting a deal down. Both times we got a new deal that had some gets without gives because the company needed to get a deal done due to their needs. They need to get a deal done now because they can’t execute on the company’s plan the way things are and they know it. Why the hell are we are giving concessions today? It's beyond me. As I’ve mulled it over it’s actually become appalling to me. Again, WTF? And concessions in the RSV system? Good Lord. I can’t believe it...I just cannot believe it.
So I voted “No”. I could be wrong, but I do think I’ve put some time into it, read everything, watched the videos etc. etc. YMMV.
