Here comes the Hard Sell

25 years at United and only flown 2500 hours here. Out of touch. Should not have written this letter. Openly pushing a contract that allows a major scope violation. Allow non seniority retired pilots to sit in seats currently held by nothing but pilots on the seniority list. Mike Hamilton… you sir should simply resign. You do not speak for me nor does an MEC that would allow this and then support it.

You know why that's in there? The next furlough, they can just furlough PIs and then rehire them as PUPs. Likely at a fraction of the pay.
So any PI looking at this contract thinking that there's a nice pay raise for them, it also allows them to furlough you and hire a trained replacement immediately (probably you).

Are there limits on how many retired dudes can be brought in?

What they fail to mention is that Management controls the hiring process, so they get to define "qualified." Which means they can hire as many retired pilots as they want if they determine that the line pilot applicant is not a good choice. Management has complete discretion on that, so when they decide there are plenty of applicants from the retiree pool that will do it for 50%, why would they ever hire another line applicant.
And somehow they (ALPA) says with a straight face that there are no Scope concessions???????

Just seeing the work of Insler over the last 6 years. This pilot group allowed years to pass without forcing anything and Inslers minions truly thought they could get away with anything. This is what you get. And Hamilton has been right there watching this sh!t show and he didn’t become MC if Insler did not state who his successor was in waiting.

This TA is the byproduct of the ugly marriage between the contract extension and the Covid LOA. UAL pilots allowed their LEADERSHIP to sell their futures down the road to the lowest-priced freelance/private contractor pilot. Marvin married Miss Hogan and this is their baby. And worst of all, YOUR UNION (thanks Todd) was the OBGYN. The first guy to raise his hand has determined your future. It's astonishing. "Ohhhh the economy!" Economies come and go. But contractual gains last until YOU give them away (in exchange for twenty bucks).
Unless you vote this POS down and start over.

Can "only" bring in retired guys if there aren't enough "qualified applicants" from the line pilot ranks. So, ALPA says that won't be a problem since we are raising the PI pay.
