The secondary bid is open to all pilots and not just pilots junior to the ones bidding off as the poster alluded to. Sometimes secondary bids for certain BES can go very senior if there are only a few awarded.

‘true, I was trying to over simplify the process… of course secondaries are awarded in seniority order.

My understanding is that 8-C-4-a secondary vacancies are about keeping the training pipeline full.

For example, there are 10 advertised vacancies for DEN 787 CA. Let's say that 10 787 captains bid over to DEN from SFO. Those pilots are laterals and therefore don't take up a training slot. In this case, UPA 8-C-4-a allows the company to make additional "secondary" awards up to the original number of advertised vacancies so that the allotted training slots are filled.

So in this example, up to 20 DEN 787 CA bids could be awarded: the 10 laterals from SFO and up to 10 additional awards to fill the training pipeline.

Do the projected numbers for next summer include these vacancies?

The note said between now and then

So this time around it looks like the vacancy bid screen used the MIN number as baseline for total in category, vs the MAX number they want.

The time stamp of6/10/2022 10:19:19 AM on the vacancy bid screen shows the number currently in BES. The # of Positions column on the vacancy screen should be updated by Monday afternoon before the snapshot comes out with a new time stamp. Then the screen will reflect Manpowers desired # of Positions.

Time is relative. Jr WB CA is roughly 38% seniority presently. How long it takes an individual pilot to reach 38% varies based on hiring cycles & ages of senior pilots. For that reason, it’s very inaccurate to say that because today’s WB jr man took xx years to reach 38%, it will take todays new hire xx years to reach WB jr man.

There are seniority calculator tools available, & the best you can do is use that to project when you’ll hit the current seniority percentage target. Whether WB CA will still be at that mark when you get there is anyones guess.
