Most ER docs save more lives in one day than 99% of pilots will in their whole career. I love my job and I don’t want to leave money on the table (because the company can absolutely afford it), but be careful with this notion of “deserve.” Take all that you can… And then be grateful for it

You have to make north of 600K to be in the 1%. We're not in the 1%. You could double most of our incomes and we still wouldn't be in the top 1% And the majority of workers in this country don't carry the same level of responsibility that pilots do. Not even close. Have more respect for your profession.

… That is 95% better than the rest of the country, which is already the richest in the world…But to say we're underpaid, have poor retirements, etc is being a little disingenuous. Plenty of other careers with as much, or more responsibly as what we have that make a lot less..
The knob slobbin’ apologists around here are full of pure buffoonery. Just amazing.
I wonder if my Oracle software sales neighbor who pulls down well over half a mil a year feels as bad for all the money he makes?

Said no banker, Wall Streeter, insurance exec, tech bro, CEO, C-suite executive….EVER!

I’m sure we all know a handful of the above mentioned individuals who prioritize family and have a good work-life balance, but they are the exception, not the rule.
If you’re solely interested in a fat W2 (which most of them are) and having a three car garage with a GT3 you haven’t driven in months, the focus on section 20. That’s where the money making provisions are.

10 or so posts ago Pilot4000 said "Nothing wrong with that, but the majority of the country has a lot more things to worry about on a daily basis than we do." The majority of the country aren't practicing ER doctors. In my reply to him I didn't mention ER docs. So what's the motivation for mentioning ER docs in your reply to me? I said we have a responsibility that most of the country doesn't.
Our skill set as a commodity and the barriers to entry (cost & time to acquire the skills the American public expects of us) are the leverage we use to extract as much as practical from the company. Deserve has nothing to do with it

I suppose im saying that responsibility isn’t correlated with pay. Cargo pilots are exhibit 1, ER docs are exhibit 2, corporate lawyers , etc.

If any of us vote for less than 40% increase in pay, we're all undeserving of anything. It's inflation. That simple. They know the numbers. We know the numbers. Let's not let them devalue our labor and professionalism any more than what's been done over the last few decades. Don't let them sell you on the purple tie.

Picture this:
80 kts on the takeoff roll, runway 25R in LAX, three cargo pilots of a cargo 747 bound for TPE see a 777-300ER that just landed on 25L cross the hold short for 25R. The cargo pilots reject the takeoff and stop 150 short of hitting the 777-300ER. How many lives did they save?

compensation is driven by supply and demand - nothing else. Also true for ER doctors, walk street bankers, cope lawyers etc.
the good news is that supply and demand is in our favor right now. I hope we are not pi$$ing it away.
