Default UAL merger intrerests?

Sorry to drift off the aip topic. But I keep hearing every more frequent whispers that ual may try a takeover after a ta gets ratified. Is this just internet/crewroom banter? Or are of you united guys hearing simular stuff? The rumor mill seems to center around Alaska or JetBlue. I'm not saying I know anything. Just seeing if all the talk is based on something credible.

We have 550 airplanes being delivered in the next 5 years. There is no way we are buying another airline. Why waste the time, cost and risk the government not approving it when we can just buy planes and grow organically.

I guess not everyone knows there is a pilot shortage. (Kidding, sarcasm....)

Kirby needs all the employee groups pulling on the same end of the rope for his growth plan. A merger or acquisition without the employees being flat out bribed to play along would undo a lot of what has already changed here. Just glance at the spirit jetblue merger threads and all it takes is one troll to drop a "staple them" comment and the ill will it breeds is infectious.

United won’t have a pilot shortage. The other airlines will though. It will be interesting in a couple years watching the LCCs and Regionals without enough pilots to fly their schedule. Alaska is already having an issue and they are a legacy airline!

couple of years? one of american's regionals has a net negative of 400+ for the year. as in they are actively shrinking while hiring as much as they humanly can.

Why would anyone, much less United be interested in buying Alaska? Particularly with the poison pill that is Horizon in the mix?

Jetblue would never be approved due to combined market share in the NYC MSA so you can rule out that rumor. The last time I heard this rumor, it was started by B6 flight attendants.

And I don't see Alaska as very likely because their management don't want to sell.
