I flew a lot of 135 charter, and it was common that the charter broker would ask the customer if they wanted to include a tip for the pilots. When they said yes, it went straight into the brokers pocket. The only time I got tips was when the customer gave us cash. I'd assume its the same way in the limo world.

I personally think it’s out of bounds to tell anyone else how to spend their money and if I were your FO I would tell you as such. Tipping is good but not a requirement. If a guy doesn’t tip why don’t you cover the spread?

Tips are not built into the contract with our transportation companies. I throw a 5 his or her way if they make any sort of effort to be pleasant and helpful.

Well, that makes you an exception in the pilot world.

I've gotten all sorts of unsolicited advise from pilots on how to spend my money. From a house, cars, vacations, investments, what have you...

Same observation.

What’s funny though is you went crying to mommy (mods) when I responded to your PM. Yup I told you directly I’d beat your ass, but trust me you’re not the first. Over a decade of playing hockey, and I’ve been in more than few fights. I miss that sport, kept clowns like you honest. You run your mouth off, you cheap shot a guy, you’re paying the price for that decision by dropping the gloves and taking a few.

I hope I get to fly with you

I mean - really another UAL pilot threatening another UAL pilot in the interweb….what is this - a spirit wings forum???

Ironic. You just told me how to spend my money (cover the spread) after telling me that it's out of bounds to tell anyone else how to spend their money. Different rules for you than others?

And FWIW, when an FO doesn't tip, I give extra. If an FO asks to borrow a buck or two, I never ask nor expect to be repaid.

But please, if you ever fly with me or any other Captain that calls you out on this, feel free to tell me/then what you think of tipping/not tipping.

That’s true but context matters. That was a comedy skit, not some guy trash talking another guy at the bar or through social media. You’re looking for trouble doing that. The college I attended I witnessed fights outside the bar routinely. You think two guys (and gals sometimes) just decided to duel it out? Or do you think someone decided to stir the pot? Nobody felt bad for either, nobody was the victim.

Tips stands for

”To Insure Prompt Service”

if you’re not waiting for me when I get out front, the tip reflects that.

when I give a tip I always thank the driver for being there when we come out.

Reward good service and don’t keep tipping when you wait 20 minutes for pickup.
