I for one am happy to see the growth, movement and the excitement it brings. Some will always have it better and some will have it worse. I didn’t spend 18 years sitting sideways and thankful for the “old, angry guys” who made the career what it was until it was gutted. Smiles, tears, ribbon cuttings and shiny new jets can only support the bank accounts for so long while we’re responsible for hundreds of lives per leg.

Angry? How neatly that fits into your narrative when you end with “luckily the numbers are dwindling”. You know who else eagerly await for those numbers to dwindle? Management. I wonder why.

I don’t see anger. Attitude is a different topic which I believe at times is fomented by parties not necessarily aligned with our interests and goals. In order for one to promote their agenda they need to denigrate those with opposing views.

I’ve heard the comments personally, there is definitely people out there who are angry someone else got a better deal than they did.

The reason I jumped on your post was the comment about old guys who need to go away. That is a belief held in multiple circles by those with self serving interests who want to change the narrative. I get it that your comment was directed at those who are relative to your post. The marginalization as a whole of older legacy pilots has been underway for a long time.

Narrow body FO is only like $180k/yr with some longevity and we have lots of new guys making less. Don't cheat: 83 hrs x 12 x pay rate. The median will be less than the mean. This isn't a $250k/yr job. We get prole paychecks but aren't actually alpha enough to be considered blue collar. I'd say we need a contract except what's the point when we waive the good parts to get a line? What's the point when we pick-up weekends and holidays? I should have been a plumber. At least then I'd be the one raising my kid.
