An absolute slap in the face for the 40-50 year old regional CAs who never get looked at. Disrespectful and disgusting, recruiting should be totally ashamed of themselves.
im not concerned about Swayne being here at his age. If he started flying at age 14 and got hired at 24 then good for him. If the 40 yr old applying didn't get started until his late 20s or spent 20 years in the military then so be it. Competency is the only thing I'm interested in. The Influencer community is getting old fast though. I wouldn't put up with production during our operation.

I have no use for the influence community myself, BUT.....what they are doing is legal as long as the camera is not running from the time the brake is dropped until its set.

UAL influences the influencers on how they should influence. This is marketing and selling a product “become a pilot, look how cool it is”

So you are suggesting that its totally legal to be making videos while doing preflight duties including checklists??

While I personally think filming while performing ones preflight duties is dumb, it is however NOT ILLEGAL. The regs specifically say that doing such is only illegal during flight time (from brake release to brake set). Pretty cut and dried to me.

121.542(d)

(d) During all flight time as defined in 14 CFR 1.1, no flight crewmember may use, nor may any pilot in command permit the use of, a personal wireless communications device (as defined in 49 U.S.C. 44732(d)) or laptop computer while at a flight crewmember duty station unless the purpose is directly related to operation of the aircraft, or for emergency, safety-related, or employment-related communications, in accordance with air carrier procedures approved by the Administrator.

I don't follow this guy and have never seen any of his content, but the vast majority of influencers in general are nacisistic turds. It's one thing when people do this in the fitness industry, or whatever, because it doesn't really affect other people from a safety perspective. If anything it's just women showing off at the gym in their underwear, but I would expect more from someone in a safety sensitive professional role.

Me personally, if I were to board a flight and noticed someone in the cockpit making a video of themselves I would promptly deplane and wait for the next flight. These people are clearly more interested in themselves than maintaining a competent and safe operation.

I'm sure the large corporations are salivating all over this for the PR, but when the stuff hits the fan and we're landing in a max crosswind tropical storm event in the carribean, I would rather fly with competent and experienced crews versus who looks pretty in the cockpit.

Go tell that to that SWA old senior guy who is short of filming himself taking a **** in the bathroom. Idk how SWA hasn’t fired him, he legit has cameras on while taxing. Great way to keep sterile Cockpit.

FOM is also specific in that it’s only prohibited during flight. There should be an asterisk stating that while not prohibited on the ground, it is pathetic.
