Commutair will be operating at a loss for the foreseeable future if oil shoots up to an expected $150 a barrel. The entire 50 seat market is a “dead man walking”. Our CEO only a few months ago was talking up the Aviate program to congress as a highly selective program the went through training comparable to mil training…
It’s now turned into an eventual guaranteed United job for anyone with a pulse flying for United Express only.
You could literally have no degree, multiple DUI/Felony’s, etc. And with 1,000 PIC you’re in. We are truly in desperate times. And this is proof United is in the worse spot compared to its competitors.

At the same time we turn away people with thousands of hours, multiple type ratings, and clean training records because they were previously turned down for Aviate or one of the other programs that were offered. If we’re going to give people the ability to simply opt in, shouldn’t we allow everyone?

At the same time they’re still conducting full on interviews with the Hogan test and all the fireworks that come with it. Then with SkyWest they have some guaranteed interview with some questionable “gates”. If you call out for more than 3 days in a year, not qualified to interview (safety first right?). The requirements for their GPI are the same for any normal interview and including 2 years as a Captain with at least 1,000 hours.
They have nothing with Republic, so those pilots will have to drop the big bucks to have their apps reviewed, along with interview prep just to play.. if they get called.
I understand the last two carriers are not conducting only UAX flying, but why would any of that matter at this point? Not only that, I’m fairly certain Republic only flies UAX out of EWR. And I know for a fact SkyWest ERJ crews only fly UAX out of IAH and DEN. And the UAX IAH flying is how Mesa found it’s way into Aviate.
This whole thing is just stupid IMHO. Very disorganized and if United wants to start grabbing this shortage by the balls they need to stop playing checkers. This is chess, buy SkyWest and/or Republic out and leave our competitors with scraps and let them fight over it. Our 175 flying should be done in house anyways, it would open up availability to operate E2’s, etc.

Then, could still be subject to having a bad day and/or whomever interviewed them that day, then sweating out a YES/NO.
Meanwhile, over at the latest AVIATE program…

Just for reference, the 4 Aviate regionals (when you only count Mesa’s pilot flying only UAX) it’s around 2,000 total pilots.
Delta has 9E with 2,500 pilots flows, and American with over around 7,000 with their WO regional flows.
I’m sure AW pilots will be allowed to come over to other Aviate regionals with their flow seniority in hand when/if AW UAX flying is removed.
This is not even close to a pilot shortage solution for United. But a good start I guess?

I’m really not dissing hard on the flow. United was literally last to the party on flow, everyone is doing it. But it proves once again United has zero organization and outlook. They just throws $hit at a wall. And no it never sticks, it just slides right off leaving more crap behind, They spend all this time blowing up the Aviate program and basically just dumped it and said “everyone flows now”.

On the United Aviate webpage they have a deadline for Opting in. March 31 2021. No one talks about if this is permanent or a temporary flow for only those currently involved with United.
thoughts? Do you believe it’s permanent? If you don’t believe it’s permanent why did United choose this window?
