I'm understanding the rules for reserve between WB are different from NB, with more LC to where commuting would be tolerable, maybe I'm way off on this. I've heard like 5 SC per month and rest LC, if so that changes things.

I'm 3.5 hours from DCA, with no traffic, and could easily make LC sitting reserve at home. Another thread mentioned more flying currently on 777 than 757, what does DCA look like currently for new hire?

Global reserve is not “friendlier” than NB reserve. As long as the airline is understaffed you will get an assignment everyday either flying, SC or FSB. There is functionally very little to no “sitting at home on LC” at this airline. It does happen from time to time and routinely happened in the pas and possibly during the pandemic but it is not normal. Either fleet you will be on reserve for years. Early 2019 hire is the junior line holder in DC756 but that changes monthly as the company redraws the line.

You hit the mail on the head. Don’t pick a WB because you think the reserve life will be more chill unless you live close to base. Our reserve rules are the worst and getting worserer.

If nothing changes in the new TA we will all be on reserve with the change in reassignment rules.

The new hires getting WB in the coastal bases, would anyone mind shedding some light on the life you have on global reserve living in base? I am from originally from MEL and it would be a bit of a dream to be able to visit family while at work. With that said, on reserve, is it likely to be called for what I assume are super senior lucrative trips anyway?

I would also never commute to a base in favor of moving there, but, of course, LA or surrounding area would cause a pretty big hike in the cost of living. I'm not sure it would be worth it to "live the dream," especially considering I already live in UA base.

You are not going to go to MEL on reserve. You are not going to go to MEL until you are in the top 20% of the base.

What if you live 20 minutes from base? Would I be home more than a 737 line holder? Right now I’m off 13 days a month with mid rank seniority

But you will go to EWR, a lot. So there's that.
