Agreed, superb post by FlewNavy. The sort of post that makes it worth visiting these forums vs all of the worthless COVID spew.
Just a little add on to what FlewNavy said - I'm a relatively senior NB FO in a Jr base and I don't find it very difficult to make more monthly than a WB FO on reserve. And I don't do it by flying 90 hard hours a month. I trade and pick up trips with lots of soft time (deadheads and such). So it is not unusual for my pay to top 100 hours for the month... while only working 45 hard hours. I rarely fly redeyes these days unless the pay is right for me. Meanwhile, I get every day and holiday off that I want. It's been this way for me for the last few years (6+ years since I got hired).
I'm finally about ready to give WB a try, but not because I'm unhappy where I'm at. I'm just ready for something new, and I'll be a solid WB lineholder who can avoid bunkie if I so desire. If the WB lifestyle doesn't agree with me I'll just bid to NB CA... and should be solid a lineholder as well by the time I do. Good luck to all.

I was thinking the same thing. I’m 6.5 years on property and I’m not holding a line on any WB FO seat. Maybe he’s referring to current percentages showing him as a solid line holder during normal times when 60% was holding a good line.

Had a great breakdown from a guy in IAD base. Was curious if anyone in EWR as a reservist has any idea how much or little one may fly (currently) I know the landscape is ever changing.
How much does a 756 EWR reserve FO fly? How often are they sitting short call? Are they being assigned a trip every set of reserve days? Airport standby? How often are they being assigned to IRO? Where is the flying taking them? I’m debating moving to EWR or preferably commuting and I’m hoping it’s commutable. Next summer will be my 1 yr. mark, any idea how long it may take for me to hold a line?

Ha! I was thinking domestic 777 trips all right, to include HI. I know that currently the G-Line on the 777 is not where it would normally be and was not factoring that into my post. I'm patiently waiting until the grounding is closer to over because I'm making more than a WB reserve anyways. I'd like to avoid training until after New Year's too, especially because the NB earnings potential over the holidays is excellent.
I'm not especially interested in long haul or the 787, but I won't mind being a bunkie on the right trips. On the previous vacancy bid I was showing as high as 64% in base, and that had a Max of 475 FOs. PC's accompanying Crew Resources Update actually projected 525 FOs in base so my percentage might get as low as 60ish in the spring. The current bid now shows a Min/Max of 439 (and I'm showing at about 68% as a result), I presume the Min/Max on this bid is due to training backlog and the grounding dragging on into 2022.
