Question- If a category isn’t advertised with any vacancies, if pilots in that category go to a new fleet or base, then in actuality there is a vacancy created by the outward movement and will be back filled for someone wanting in… correct? So there is still a chance of getting into base without advertised vacancy right?
thanks in advance

The difference between the Min and Max on the this bid for almost every fleet/seat/domicile is zero, so that means the company is obligated to "backfill" any additional vacancies created by pilots moving to a different seat. That means at the bottom of the seniority list, we will have massive movement and huge numbers of unfilled positions. Those unfilled positions can be given to new hires over the course of the three months after the bid closes, so basically for Aug Sep and Oct classes.
Sometime before Oct they will at least have to have another bid to create more unfilled positions to give to the new hire classes later in the Fall and into the 'Winter. So, at the latest it will be 12ish weeks till the next vacancy, but I would expect at least a small one before then.

Edit: GoCats beat me to it and said it better. I hadn’t looked at it that closely yet since there’s really only one thing I’m after, but with the spread set to zero in most places, the cascade from this one is gonna be wild.

That’s what I thought, thanks for the answer! Fortunately my desired cat has a min set that’s the same as the current number of pilots so hopefully a bunch of dudes senior to me want to bid wide body lol. Thanks again
Yes, in some cases. You have to look at the Min/max to figure it out, though. They’ll only backfill to the min number, so if they’re not wanting backfills, they’ll typically set the min lower. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but the min in a seat is what the real marker is.

1. The P&W 777's will be close to or back in the air,
2. The Chinese will reopen to foreign airlines without all those oppressive requirements.

It could happen.
... on the snapshots.
For those new to watching vacancy bids, I'll caution you to not be sucked into believing that snapshots are anything close to the final award. This one's going to be especially volatile because it's so large a vacancy.
Be very careful about bidding 100% in any category because you could find yourself on reserve for years. And if anyone does happen to get 777 during probation year (I don't see that happening anytime soon) can expect to be on reserve for years even at the current hiring pace.
