a simple “I don’t know” is fine man
when do you start getting paid as a Pilot? Day 1. When does tour longevity start as a Pilot? Day 1

Day 1 you are a new United Pilot.......Day 2 you are not a new United pilot.

It’s not clear at all.

Got an official answer from a reputable source and the first thing said was “yeah we shoulda defined that better I’ll clarify” but the intent is as long as none of the new hires from this point forward are furloughed, the provisions of reduced pay are suspended. Refreshing to get a clear, concise, comforting answer rather then be called a pot stirrer just because someone didn’t know the answer for sure or couldn’t articulate it well.

This raw interpretation would actually be terrible because then after day 1 of BI there would not be any new hire pilots on property and pay reductions would not be suspended. I know it’s a super detailed question, but like ECC said, devil in the details. Super good news if the intent of the interpretation holds up.

For the purpose of the LOA, a new pilot is a new hire pilot for the duration of the loa. If they wanted to furlough all of these “new hires” then the mpg reductions in the LOA would go back into effect. That’s my interpretation of the LOA anyway.

Yes, this was the intent that was confirmed to me by union as well. Good stuff!

I understand where you were going with this now.....I thought you were trying to stretch it out as in it takes the entire training period for a Pilot to be considered new. Like turning a wheel on IOE for pay.

Ah no, just opposite thinking of “Pilot John finished his fleet training so he’s not “new” anymore.” The 30,000 foot view of what they intended is good.

A person I know is in that group, and his letter says "starting in May". No specific date mentioned.

That is not true either. In my Continental class, we had numerous minorities and women, I didn’t ask about anyone’s sexual orientation and didn’t care. Making hiring harder for “pasty white guys” is just as wrong as it was in years past where minorities were discriminated against.
