Default UAL email fiasco.

So, not sure if anyone here has experienced this issue, but others have. For those non-UAL types here let me explain. UAL wanted to up email safety to prevent the bad guys from getting into our computer system so they opted for multi-factor login on our email system using a 3rd party software. We got instructions on how to change to the new system but the instructions are only good if you are on 14.4.1 iOS and not good if you are on 13.7. Some of our group are on 14.4 apparently and had no trouble migrating, but those of us not yet on 14.4 (which we are not supposed to be on) we're locked out of our company email. Some folks may not use company email so this was a non-issue, but for those of us who use company email for travel authorization etc. it was an annoyance. Anyways, ya gotta laugh.

For those having trouble the directions are in Content Locker/Flight Ops/iPad but the steps 5 and beyond will be different, but hopefully intuitive.

Why on earth do you think that anyone on an airline pilot forum would be interested in an internal email change of software/procedure? Most pilots at our own company don’t even care about this.

Maybe post this on an IT developer forum?

Seriously??

If you are UAL and use the company email like I do then the first place I looked to find what to do was the other forum where it is the number one thread with 3 pages.

I'm posting this so UAL pilots who don't peruse the other forum know where to find the instructions if they find themselves locked out of their email like I did.

One of the things I dearly miss in retirement ... warning letters on sl usage ... letters to visit the flight office due to excessive sl usage ... SFO bake sales ... other useless chicken fecal matter ....

Yes, yet another shining example of UAL putting the SH back in IT.

I got to ask, why in the world are you using company email? Nothing good can come of that. The only reason I ever go there is to get my QRC code for Hawaii entry. I don't feel comfortable giving a state run organization private contact info so they can track me.

Same goes for company email. They track everything. Seriously, don't use it. If you don't want to use personal contact info for pass authorization, then use a free expendable gmail or microsoft account.

I have an auto reply message set up on company email, if anyone really wants to contact me, say eg, where to we meet for a domestic 777 trip? The message says how to contact me.

Default UAL have made this harder than it needs to be

They tried to automate it instead of having you do it manually. That doesn't seemingly work.

If you do it manually, and are willing to have the app on your personsal cell phone rather than the EFB, it's pretty easy to set it.

If anybody cares enough, I can post the instructions on how to make it a lot easier than following UAL's overdone instructions.

I use company email for internal issues. For instance, when updating my medical I do not need to contact the CPO with my personal email. I also only use company email on my iPad and do not access it anywhere else. Also, if you have Help Desk issues of any sort company email is the proper channel as well. There are numerous uses for company email all for internal company reasons and none of which would be appropriate on personal email.

Wild guess here- Do you also have a deferral sticker over your front facing iPad camera?
