no one knows what the hell is going on and Monday morning Quarterbacking doesn’t help anybody.
can you say with 100% certainty that the Mentor that said there will be no furloughs is wrong?

Well we are currently petitioning Congress to pass a CARES2 type act for more aid. This COULD also stipulate no layoffs.
But it’s anybody’s guess at this point if Congress will think the downsides of throwing more money at airline bailouts will outweigh sending thousands to the street just before an election.
Interesting times indeeed.

I had a mentor when I got hired, but I never heard a word from that person when I sent questions.
As far as time on furlough, I would guess 1-2 years. There's going to be 800-900 mandatory retirements over the next 18 months, not counting LOA's and any early outs.

After each of my 2 furloughs at UAL, I was offered recall right around the 3-year mark. I was about 90/85% each time. I did not immediately return either time.
My advice: move on with life as if you (she) are not coming back. Don’t burn any bridges, but open new doors and let go of the anchor of “needing” to come back. That way, if you choose to return on your own conditions, you will be much happier versus resenting being ‘separated and stuck in a bad marriage’...depending on something completely out of your control.

Thanks...
Looks like the consensus is 1-3 years. I also gave her my old copy of Flying the Line and told her to read Chapter 6. Bottom line back then was to plan on leaving and being pleasantly surprised if you ever heard from the airline again. I didn't want to tell her what I really was thinking because my two were nothing like what anyone told me they'd be like...had Captains telling me they'd see me in a few months and to enjoy my vacation.
