It’s the same mindset as the people who leave with 1,000 hours in their sick bank. I would ask them why they would fly the last year for free instead of burning their bank. There were 2 pretty consistent responses.

1. “What else would I do?“
2. “If I call in sick I’d be capped at 93 hours.” When I would point out that they just flew 14 days for an additional 20 hours over their published line, they’d say, “Yeah, but I made 105 hours of pay instead of 85.” I’m still trying to wrap my head around that mindset. If I lived in base I’d rather get 73 hours to bid reserve than to fly 12 days of LHR trips for 78 hours.

Correct. Lest we forget, age 65 was the primary reason the last furlough dragged out as long as it did.

The number one reason why guys did not take the early out is just pure GREED and the second is poor financial planning.
Only 9% of 335 million Americans make 100k/year which is less than 33.5 million peoples. Now only 1% of 335 million make 250k/year which is around 3.35 million peeps, United is giving guys 250K for three years to sit their @ss home/enjoy life but it is viewed as a severe pay cut. Go around and say to your neighbors that you’ll make 250k to stay home and let’s see how bad they will feel for you! The guys that did not take that deal are IDIOTS, I wish the same deal comes around when I’m 62.

But they wouldn't be able to hang out at the Three Tuns and talk loudly about airplanes.

Hmm, I don’t see it that way. Greed is NOT expecting to keep what YOU earned. Greed is expecting to keep what someone else earned. You don’t know their particular circumstances, so be careful throwing rocks in a glass house.

Greed - intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food.

Exactly. It’s not selfish to expect to keep what YOU earned!! If you want everyone to be equally poor, move to a communist country. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

Definition says nothing about how it was earned, or who earned it. Greed is greed.

Not saying a pilot who didn’t take the early out is greedy. Just defining greed accurately.

Understood. Guess we need to define “selfish” then. Thats a subjective discussion.

Now this definition may be more appropriate.

Selfish - lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure.
