Thanks! I also agree that he rest of the program just seems like filler with a few new concepts to try and help. I personally was prepared to take a year off at 50 hours which to me seemed like a likely possibility when looking at other airlines leave programs. Now, unfortunately a half month COLA isn’t of interest to me. But like you said, for everyone of us that isn’t interested, I hope others do find the program useful.

Had they had a 50 hour like like our peers I bet we’d have a lot more takers than partial month or empty line crap. For all the good that came for the early outs, empty lines and partial month COLA’s are weak attempts to save jobs. If we wanted to save jobs, a 50 hour month leave would have had a significant impact vs working half the month for less than 40 hours of credit.
if YOU don’t like it then YOU don’t have to take it. It’s a great deal for those who don’t need the money. Work blows right now so why not take 1/2 the month off or as much time off with an empty line as you want. You pick where you want your week in the first half and last half. Empty line you work when you want to work. How much more flexibility do you want?

I have said for my entire career that if I could work 50 hours and take the rest of the month off I would in a second. When I say this most other pilots agree. Well here is their chance. I have read on this board many times people wish we had unlimited ability to drop to 50 hours....well here you go.

*****ing and moaning that you can’t stay home and get paid to do nothing helps nobody. Either take it or don’t because I think these deals provide a lot of flexibility unless you are in need of your paycheck. A lot of people got forced into commuting AND onto reserve....why not say screw that and go do something else while United is your part time job?

What pilots say they would do and what they actually do tends to be in opposition. Its kind of like the 40 year old who says he will be done by age 58-60 but yet the data says the average major airline pilot retires at 64. Its all conjecture until you are in that position. So I wouldn't put to much clout in what someone says they would do, much like voting on a contract.

Just cal scabs? I could have swore United had some scabs. Quite a few considering the strikers were out a month vs two years.

Its a numbers thing. Most UAL scabs were guys who crossed the line or were fleet quals IE older dudes. Many of the CAL scabs were hired in their early 20s to get bodies in jets and break the strike. Notice, "many" not "most"

I've seen one UAL scab in my 5+ years here, and more CAL scabs than I can count on my hands. Also, UAL scabs were unwelcome from day 1, while CAL scabs walked around largely unaffected for many years. Just some of the nuance in the situation

This is a great deal? Hawaiian, SWA and Alaska have a “great deal”. This is an okay deal for a very limited amount of pilots. Are you going to try for 1 of the 100 partial Month COLA to help out?

I do see the point about it potentially allowing more furloughs... but what you’re not considering is the cost to the company for your benefits. Also they will still be training every 9 months which also has costs associated.... Again I see your overall point but to say it doesn’t cost the company anything isn’t accurate.
