Default Guppy Captain or Sparky FO?

OK...so I wasn't expecting to go from ~20% in BES to displaced, but here we are . I've been following the union and company comms - mostly so I could offer good advice to friends who were being affected by displacements and potential furloughs. Now that I'm in the frying pan I'm having difficulty finding info in all of the old messages/emails. Can someone point me to a nice consolidated source? I've been through the UPA so don't bother with that response lol. I'm interested mostly in things like grandfather rights to return to current BES, ability to bid post displacement (equip vs training freeze), positive space, etc...

Other than that, I'm currently a 320 Cap and I'm deciding between DCA 737 Cap & EWR 787 FO. Other than the pay hit, I don't really care about losing a stripe so ego is not a factor. I probably mojo'd myself by telling my FOs that I'll do an entire UAL career without flying the 737...so I might as well submit to the karma and just go there . I know the schedules and 777 vs 787 'missions' are totally jumbled now, but I'm curious what schedules I could expect as a 20-25% 787 FO? I'll gladly trade the $$ for extra days off. IIRC, Carlson put out something describing how the various fleets will be used in the near-mid term but can't find it.

**I think this is all just 'fire for effect' and an attempt to soften us up for the coming TA. IMO we should call Kirby's bluff and tell him execute with the contract we have. Shrinking an airline is anathema to him - he just wants us to help pay for him to do HIS job. We've done OUR job - safely & professionally delivered outstanding operational performance.

the problem with EWR is Europe. If the 787 gets Asia it changes the story. Europe flying is all rigged and it takes 5 3 day trips to equal 75 hours. If you will be 20% then you can probably get TLV which is a nice trip for credit. If EWR returns to just 787-10 to Europe I think you will regret the decision from a time off vs pay perspective. I had heard from quite a few EWR 787 CAs and FOs that they were planning to bid back to the 777 due to the inefficient trips on the 787 prior to this mess

the 787 is a great jet though! And I love Europe layovers.....

Go fly the guppy. Set a good tone. Never have to fly with scabs and/or grouchy old men.

If you go to the 73 any future Guppie jabs will carry far more credibility as you will have endured the flying wind tunnel cockpit first hand

But please by a noise canceling headset to use hot mic from tug disconnect up thru climb out to 10,000. Please please please And then again, you can probably borrow mine after Oct 1st. Defend the UPA and I’ll see you all when I get back.

While jumpseating on the 737 (I'm learning to be angry when I hear Guppy lol) I figured out that I'm not smart enough to learn the flows and duties of the FO! COVID finally made me break down and buy a noise canceling headset so I'm all set!

Thanks for all the inputs!

787. 25% will get you a good schedule too. You might even like it so much you decide to stay after you can hold 320 capt again. I’m getting bumped from WB FO and I cry daily. Lol

Pilot supply houses have to be scratching their heads. I’ll bet headset sales in March broke every historical record.

don’t be angry. Guppy is a term of endearment used for generations long before CAL came into the UAL fold. It was NEVER used as a disparaging term. Anyone who says otherwise either A) has no clue of the history or B) has a bit of a complex.... Guppy. Always was, always will be😁👍

A guppy is a very small fish. The 737 has always been the smallest Boeing-designed airline jet. The -100s and -200s were so short they kind of looked like one, too. Nothing more to it than that.
