This post reminded me of all of the grace that has been extended to me in the many different countries I have been blessed to visit. So many times I have butchered another language but the people were so tolerant and patient.

Thank you for this post.

Word on the street is that Shelia Jackson Lee called Kirby up a few weeks back and told him that he was going to restore the full time ramp and agents back to full time status (which he did ) while United is using the Fed bailout money.

Lawds ... one can only hope this is true. I'm gonna check with my source.

Do you specifically think that he said pilot furloughs can be avoided with reduced hours? Based on what? A conference call? Was that call really focused on pilots?

If so, why did UCH just complete a 5000 pilot surplus that cleared close to 4000 pilots from their "needed" roster? There is already substantial action already in place implementing their training plan. They REALLY are implementing it. Will it go that far? Demand will determine that. Pilot concessions won't.

It seems fairly evident that pilots are included in this Scott Kirby quote:

"We are hopeful at United that we can work with our unions to variablize our pay structure and frankly, not lay anyone off, not furlough any of our frontline employees,"

In the email message sent out yesterday, SK singled out "labor costs" repeatedly when talking about how to adjust the company for survival.

You know labor is the biggest variable cost, right?
