Most people cannot live on 0% pay. Everyone should be able to live on ~20% below guarantee. If you can’t, you’re doing it wrong.
To the junior ~3500 pilots at United, I apologize that your senior pilots will once again sell you out and not do something to help prevent your furlough.
1%, furlough assessment? Sure, no problem. 10-20% temporary MPG reduction? Apparently they would rather see you furloughed.

I would rather be furloughed than have anyone take a paycut. As a furloughee I know I would come back at some point. When I do I want the good contract to come back to. Plus, we all know that concessions won’t save anyone from being furloughed. Give concessions now and you just work the last few months at lower pay and then get furloughed.
When I returned from my work release assignment, I was making less than I was in year two. And, working a lot MORE to earn that LESS. The pension was stolen, the contract an inch thinner than the day I left. And just due to the vagaries of the industry and age 65, I got to sit on the bottom of the list for years. Making 72 hours per month, since there was zero in open time. Under our "new and improved, and Reserve is a choice" work rules. The contract needs to be worth coming back to.
Admittedly, I had it MUCH better than many of those junior to me, still on the street. But that's another thread.
The Concession Stand closed for me a long time ago. It was about the time Tilton & Co. walked away with a fortune while we sacrificed. Now, they want us to bail them out of 8B in stock buy-backs. Just say NO.

Dude, you REALLY don't get it. I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion but you clearly do not have any understanding of this industry. How long have you been in it? I was in 2000 by UAL and furloughed twice (now possibly approaching a third, never before happened in the industry, furlough). Have you ever read Flying the Line (Volume I AND 2)??? Your posts are naive and divisive and reek of inexperience. Not trying to be a total tool but you really should sit back and read this entire thread as there are many here making very cogent responses with a lot of details borne from years of experience. Listen!

Some of us have already had our pay reduced going from CA to NB FO. So now another 20% on top of that? I’m guessing those guys are the ones saying no. Also, since we have not had an actual proposal to be voted on, how do you know what we would or wouldn’t do? Additionally, the company would STILL furlough, because its not just the total pilot pay, but the extremely expensive benefits they save by furloughing. I’ve been through a few of these. An MPG reduction is not going to save furloughs. Its also not going to save displacements. They will just push everyone down to the lowest category for pay like Delta just did. Every pilot I’ve talked to that is close to furlough either already has active duty or full time guard orders, of they have another job lined up. So its not like they will just be sitting around.
