Default United jumpseat question

I will be trying to catch a ride on UA this week but likely bring baggage that needs to be checked. What is United's procedure for this?

I would suggest taking it with you to the gate, then once your ride is secured, ask the gate agent to tag it to be checked.

You can do it at the ticket counter outside of security if it’s not a carry on... tell them you want to JS on UAxxx and need to check a bag... after they check you in and verify your documents they’ll treat it like a non rev and only put it on the flight if you get on.

How will he get it through TSA? I think the reason he is asking is because it is too big to fit in overhead.

It is not an issue.
Walk it through TSA.
Gate check it.

I have never had an issue with an oversized bag while jumpseating.

Default Bag Exempt

Is the bag except bag tag universally recognized across other airlines. Had american take my exempt bag. Shocked how they treated pilots. But it is AA after all.

should be union collaboration bag token

I have never put a UAL bag tag/token/disc on any of my bags. And I've never been asked about it.

those tags were originally made so that when we’re traveling out of uniform we don’t get any hassles from the agent. Of course, if they had an issue, the Captain’s involvement would quickly resolve the issue.
