  • Air Carrier Training Exemptions
The FAA granted certain training exemptions to scheduled and on-demand air carriers due to the unprecedented circumstances associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The exemptions give operators grace periods for completing certain training and qualification requirements, and give crewmembers relief from having to don protective breathing equipment or oxygen masks in training, checking, or evaluation. The exemptions can be viewed at https://www.regulations.gov/. The docket numbers are FAA-2020-0291; FAA-2020-0292; FAA-2020-0307; and FAA-2020-0308.

Apparently, unlike some other airlines, we didn’t file for the 90-day exemption. Probably a good thing in the bigger safety picture. I went NQ a few days ago and was scheduled for landings today, about a week gap. So they are still doing landings and CQ and they did pay protect (LQP) in the interim. If your being displaced it’s a pretty safe assumption you might not be kept current because they’ve pretty much said as much.

Except for the fact that 300+ of us are now NOT looking at being displaced. Myself included. Could it still happen, sure.
But the reality is, I was IN Denver on Sat night for my LOE (756FO EWR) and they left me a message to NOT go to Denver. Except they called me AFTER I was already there.
Then they put out a CCS msg at 2132CT/2 May AFTER dozens of pilots were already in place.
Of course, this is AFTER they put out a crazy displacement which they are already starting to reel back.

So now myself and dozens of other pilots are NQ'd for no good reason. And still going to get 73hrs of pay.
Idiots running the asylum? You be the judge.

What is now also criminal is this-
If you are NQ'd.. and on reserve, seems you are still on the Reserve Available list. I am.
So how great is it that you could have 10 people above you and think you're safe.. not much flying, guys above me..
And then the company adds a flight. And then scheduling calls pilots only to see that they are NQ'd..
And you get the call?!
Watch what happens next month. Watch.

What a **** show.

I'm not. You would think eventually pilots will need to get landings. The WB reserve list will shrink from >100 to <10.

You: I am NQ.

Them: Are you refusing this trip?

You: I’m sorry but Im not qualified to fly because I wasnt scheduled for training.

Them: Okay Co-pilot Motch I am putting you down as OOOPs.

This will be great....I’m NQ and on reserve next month. I’m sure I will get a bunch of short calls for which I will have no intention of commuting in for. Maybe I will be able get myself 78 or 79 hours😋🥳

So.. based on this first fix of the wacky displacement bid.. I'm no longer displaced! LOL
And no longer qual'd either.

The wave of non-current for landings is going to start happening for many people by the end of this month and through June. When someone goes non-current for landings how much notice is the company required to give for training events?

I’m almost certain I’ll be furloughed Oct 1 and for that reason suspect they’ll be training the displacements before sending me for landings. Also, is there any seniority order to landings classes or can the company just look at their projected furlough cut line and chose to keep those above the line current and let the rest of us “dead men walking” stay non-current until Oct? New waters for many of us in the NB world. I’d have lost big money if someone would have bet me in Feb that I’d go non-current for landings this year.

So can you bid a line if you are non-current? I get the part about mpg being higher on rsv. My thought process is flying looks like it is recovering in Asia and Europe and there are some green shoots of flying returning slowly here. I would rather have a line and get a landings class early in July or Aug and then fly the rest of the month as a line holder but I am not sure if I can bid a line if I am non-current for landings. Any ideas if you can bid a line if you are nonqual'd?
