Just like there was $ in CARES specifically for employees payroll, I’m proposing to lobby for $ for employee buyouts to save jobs in any future iterations of the CARES Act. It’s really a pretty simple clear proposal...maybe you can come up w a constructive way to help our fellow pilots that you can understand.

So you want to lobby Congress to fund buyouts for senior United pilots? How many pilots do you want them to fund, and how many pilots do you want to buy out? Total price? I'm rounding down and going conservative low with my guess... One thousand pilots at an average buyout of $300k gives us a $300M price tag. How would you make that case to the taxpayer? I'm sure they'll be mesmerized by your immigrant and commercial tanker stories.

Thank you, I just didn’t have the energy to spell that out for him. Can you imagine the outrage and indignation that would result in ALPA taking care of the senior pilots at the expense of the furloughees?

Your public math is impressive...$300 million? Do you have a guess how much money United has already been gifted from the federal government? Just so you don’t hurt yourself...almost 20X that amount. It’s for this I CANT arrogant attitude I will always be employed...same reason we had commercial tankers...the prima donna I CANT crowd creates jobs for guys like me...thanks.

The money may go directly to the Senior EMPLOYEES but do you really think that’s who’d be benefitting the most from the program? How many? as many EMPLOYEES as we can from what they will fund...if Congress is willing to fund the ridiculous stuff in their bill...why not?

Not a story, money to foreigners is in the proposed bill...but go ahead laugh...the joke is on us.

You obviously haven’t spent much time concerning yourself about the pilots at United hired since 1999 so you’d have to try hard why and how one would sell the government.

They won’t be mesmerized by your....aahhh...nothing! Blasting away with no solution...how very weak.

That comment demonstrates you obviously have no clue of the plight of United pilots hired since 1999. I too am done with this thread but unlike you have plenty of energy, just for other endeavors.

You're going to pop a vein with your ranting. The most appropriate reply i can come up with is "**** you". You're acting like a clueless spaz.

In October it’s expected that UAL will furlough pilots. When that happens, there will be two kinds of United pilots: Those with the seniority to work, and those without.

If you agree that it’s unlikely that an early retirement buyout would completely eliminate furloughs, your plan would create three types of United pilots: Those with seniority to work, those without seniority to work, and those “super-senior” enough to accept a buyout (who still have the ability to work).

If we’re going to secure hundreds of millions of dollars for pilots, wouldn’t that money be more useful being distributed to those without a choice whether they work or not?

Using the $300M figure in this thread and 3000 pilots furloughed, I feel that money would be more impactful to more guys at the bottom instead of paying off senior guys that have the ability to work AND will be retiring soon anyway.

Further, any money in subsequent CARES act distributions would probably favor those negatively impacted by COVID, you know, like furloughs.

We disagree dude, no need to get ****y about it.

The plight that pilots have endured didn't start in 1999. The industry has been fraught with turmoil since its beginning... More so since deregulation.

I hope things improve for everyone.

This guy gets it. Even prior to deregulation furloughs and setbacks were just part of the deal if you wanted to be an airline pilot. The generation before us rode out seasonal furloughs, deregulation, strikes, bankruptcies, and liquidations. Braniff, Eastern, Pan Am........ all gone. I was aware of all of that when I started, but went ahead regardless. In my career I have experienced most of what previous generations have. The downside really stinks, it always has, and it always will. This isn’t the first potentially industry changing event that airlines have faced, and it won’t be the last. Given the history of this industry, the plight of this generation isn’t anything new.
