Just to be clear I personally don’t have any other lines of work that would pay what UA pays, nor is their another career I want to pursue. For those that have had enough of the rollercoaster and have a different option that makes them happy I am thrilled for them. Instead of a condescending “see ya” why not be happy for them and happy for one less pilot that will get furloughed?

If the guy doesn’t want to do this anymore, why be critical of that? Some go kicking and screaming at age 65, others decide that they’ve had their fill and leave early. He made a decision based on what is right for him, I say good luck to him and I hope that he enjoys his airline-free life.

Been living in a cave the last few months, have you? After 20 years bouncing between furlough and recall....two for him and possibly working on a third, sometimes the BS meter just pegs.

Very true...the 20-something guys who went straight from Riddle, 2 years at regional, then major don't have that perspective just yet, but later in life multiple furloughs get a bit old and you get tired of being the punching bag.

Some guys might finally be getting fed the F up with having to rearrange their lives every 7-10 years. Perhaps their skill set and talents would allow for a more stable income where they don’t need to worry about the next global catastrophe that threatens their livelihood? Maybe that different source of income is doing something they also enjoy? More to life than messing up your body clock, eating terrible food, radiation, fumes, all to manage an autopilot for 99% of your time on the job.

Been at this for a few decades and to be honest, for those who think leaving the industry will somehow fix and stabilize their lives, well it just isn't so.
Unless one's a doctor, becomes the next big thing, cheats a bunch of people, or works out of the ivory palace every profession has its cycles. There really isn't any greener grass out there, everyone has issues.
However, if flying jets around the country and world doesn't spin your wheel, by all means find something else. If you came here just for the income or blocks of days off I guess you found disappointment.
