I do want to make one thing perfectly clear. There is no provision in the current UPA for a system bid. UAL has never had this, and likely won't.
The current displacement/bump protocol is a negotiated PROTECTION in our contract to preclude winter furloughs and other abuses by the company. It was made painful on purpose. The company agreed to this in negotiations, translates directly to jobs saved.
No, the contract never envisioned a pandemic and catastrophe of this magnitude. However, now, more than ever, is the time to adhere to the contract. Don't let the company get away with short cuts. Just because there is a panic, is not a valid reason to abrogate your rights under the contract.
So, don't go volunteering to give up portions or protections in the contract just because it will be difficult-- and you think we need to help the company. Our actions, largely, don't have any affect on the companies survivability/profitability.
Enforce the contract, insist on it!

Here we go........
prediction:
ORD 777 closed - was scheduled to close anyway.
IAH 777 closed - all routes can be served with a 787 our new ones have to go somewhere......
DEN 787 Closed - the INTL out of DEN will be the last routes to come back the big hubs need to fly first and we can’t afford to spread out the flying.
CLE737 closed - No better time than now......
SFO 756 Closed
LAX 756 Closed
IAH 756 closed - all INTL routes will be better served with a 787.
Going to be ugly.....just rip the bandaid off quick.

It would be nice if Carlson could reveal what the desired outcome is. That would eliminate some of the guessing and gamesmanship....like publishing desired end state manning for each BES.
I know, wishful thinking.

If past history is any indication, and it usually is, Carlson is only privy to this afternoon's long-term plan. It will change many times before the process has run its course so it's always a moving target.

Hopefully it changes for the better. Some positive news out today on medicine to help speed up the recovery process if people are hospitalized. Also, rumors that a vaccine could be available as early as September. Not sure if I'd risk cutting too deep in the first displacement when far more positive news keeps coming out in regards to fighting the virus and with economies beginning to open. I still say 1500 furloughs at most.
