DAL ihas indicated they are surplus’s 7000 pilots. They believe it’s going to take 2 to 3 years for traffic to rebound. They also put out they are retiring their 777s but I think they only have 18 of them.

No they didn’t. They said as of fall 2020 they are surplus 7000 (we are around that if not more). Fall of 2021 they estimate 2500-3500 surplus after retirements. They will furlough a lot less than we will.

I would expect Delta to furlough in October whatever they think they'll be surplus in fall 2021 and carry the excess through winter 2020. So I'd expect Delta to furlough 2500-3500 based on their projections.

I don't know what United's projections are, but United's fate depends heavily on international travel. If international travel returns quickly, United will be in good shape. If international travel sucks for a long time, it bodes poorly for United.

On the other hand, this may be the opportunity to expand United’s domestic flying footprint utilizing some extra narrow bodies like Kirby has said he has wanted to do ever since he got here.

Based on the moves Kirby's made so far, I'd say he's taking the company into survival mode, and not rolling the bones on a rapid economic recovery.

But I'm just another Mongo in this game of life.
