Furlough estimate

I picked a random weekday in June and looked at my commuter city pair. UAL had been planning 9 a day. 7 are now for sale, the other two are artificially overbooked. Seats “B” and “F” in first are blocked, as are the middles in the back. So like they said in the town hall there are plenty of opportunities for customers to book, and with distancing.

Yes this is after the early outs. There may be more of the offer them as group 4 to group 2 pilots realize the make the same to not come to work. Our chronic understaffing and complete fleet realignment is all that is saving us. We are going to be a lot leaner on the other side.

I hate to jump into this mess, but having gone through 2 furloughs and been away for more than 10 years I do have some experience and hindsight here.
First of all, there will be furloughs come Oct 1st (unless the government gives a second aid package that forbids it). How many, who knows? No one does, but there will be some. There have been a lot of good points brought up here, certainly you don't have an airline if you furlough 8000 in one go. But there will be some.
At this point it's unfair to tell, especially the new guys, to get there houses in order. It's silly, most of them probably blew up their house just to get to United. They either left the military which only pays enough to really live a decent life, or they left the regionals where you never make enough to live a good life. The better point is, if you do get furloughed, start planning as soon as you are back for the next downturn, because there will be one!
Just remember, nothing is as good or as bad as it first seems. You may get furloughed, and you may think it is the end of the world, but the best things in life could happen to you while you are away. And maybe, just maybe the airline you return to is a much better one than the one you left, although United has been pretty good the past few years.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade (and add a little tequila).
Furlough was the best thing that ever happened to me, but returning to United after the furlough was pretty good too.
Just hang in there, quit speculating, stop worrying and prepare...
