Sounds good but not very practical:
1) If people are involuntarily furloughed for 10 years the airline is forked anyway
2) Typical furlough 2-3 years..people who want to bypass for more than 10 years need to $hit or get off the pot. You either want to work here or you don't.

AA pilots were furloughed over 10 years after 9/11

CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, BBC....... They all have a bias and agenda, some align with your personal views and agenda, some don’t. These days what counts for news is basically just opinion pieces from extremely biased commentators like Rachel Maddow for the left, or Sean Hannity for the right. At least most everyone agrees that Alex Jones is crazy, however I find his rants extremely amusing. How can you not laugh about a conspiracy theory involving gay frogs?
Back on topic, in regards to the comment that most furloughs only last 2-3 years, my furlough after lasted 6 years until my phone rang for the first time. Depending on how long this recovery takes, and what kind of military commitments or employment contracts people end up with, they could easily be out for a long time.

I have a good family friend in the LA area whose job was in a startup company and he was making decent money in it. I remember talking to him a couple weeks ago and he complained about how airline employees are lucky to be bailed out for 6 months but it's not fair to the taxpayers because we're all gonna be paying for it. A few days ago, I find out he's leaving LA for San Jose because he got a new job at Apple HQs.
It dawned on me that when I talked to him that day, he had probably already been furloughed or was about to be furloughed from his startup. That's why his comments on the airlines and their bailouts. To answer your question, with how bad this whole situation is getting and how bad it will continue to be, don't expect any sympathy from the public when it comes to airlines and our jobs.

Interesting.. so your friend got hired at a new job in these trying times?
Do you not think that people at APPLE, Google, other high tech firms.. and other businesses, are not going to need to travel in the Fall? Are Americans just going to stop traveling? Come on now.
To throw out a 4500+ displacement bid based on 'zero recovery' is not Core 4, it's 4 Fear. It's to scare the pilots and the union.
SK WANTS something. He's gambling. It is who he is.
At least the IAM AW Leadership called him out on it.
Stay Focused everyone.. don't give into the FEAR.
ALWAYS

It seems so cryptic the way it came out, especially when passed along by the uninformed. They may also be sending a message to the govt iso more round 2 $, don’t you think? I’d give them credit for wanting to work that lever hard rather than wanting to drop manpower (perhaps) prematurely. They still have to play the odds on being competitively positioned for a recovery wIthout a training/re-hire bottleneck in the way. If/when demand comes back, it’ll be a race to grab market share and revenue quickly to offset losses&debt and keep the banks happy.

I’m not saying that Kirby isn’t taking risk and trying to make this work out to his advantage, but I don’t think that the 4,500 is based on zero recovery. That would mean Chapter 7. The 4,500 is getting people in place for the planned 70% recovery. Unless we see a rapid and full recovery, the airlines are just going to be smaller for a while and there is nothing we can do except make sure that the contract is followed.
