It will probably be part of an article showing that others are laying off huge numbers as well.

"Join the club."?

"Welcome to my world."?

"What happened to all the unions?"?

"So, THIS is trickle down!"?

"Universal health care? Wish someone had thought of that!"?

Millions of layoffs set to push unemployment rate to highest level since Great Depression

Coronavirus could drive U.S. unemployment to 15% or higher

ah yes, the Great Depression comparisons.

one must be pretty “up and locked” while pumping MSM product right into their veins to think that this is a Great Depression scenario.

No one ever notices the word “could” or “might” in all of these dramatic headlines...just pure reaction right into the grocery store for more toilet paper

Try 29,000.

If they are furloughing 1/3 of the pilots, I would imagine the rest of the company will be the same or worse.

88,000 employees minus 1/3.

Gonna start sending this to the bigger media outlets.

Point taken. Should have just said 30 million have filed for unemployment. What the public will say to UAL's woes stays the same.

10yr recall rights maybe we can give this some attention although not likely to change this contractually. Most airlines don't have this limit.

As some have seen if you max out the ten then your return schedule will be perfect....just in time for the next furlough...

I have a good family friend in the LA area whose job was in a startup company and he was making decent money in it. I remember talking to him a couple weeks ago and he complained about how airline employees are lucky to be bailed out for 6 months but it's not fair to the taxpayers because we're all gonna be paying for it. A few days ago, I find out he's leaving LA for San Jose because he got a new job at Apple HQs.

It dawned on me that when I talked to him that day, he had probably already been furloughed or was about to be furloughed from his startup. That's why his comments on the airlines and their bailouts. To answer your question, with how bad this whole situation is getting and how bad it will continue to be, don't expect any sympathy from the public when it comes to airlines and our jobs.
