The bumpity bump game has been seriously curtailed! I certainly didn't expect this eye watering atomic bomb in round 1. Good luck to us all.
Let's just see how long it takes to train this displacement. Carlson wasn't going to go down the same path as before, but this new path could be fraught with unexpected problems too. He controls numbers...not pilot behavior. We had TK fully greased up for massive training...it was supposed to be UPWARD movement, but we have a LOT of training capacity nonetheless. Some of this will require our cooperation to make efficient. Also, they will have a tremendous OE requirement to get training completed, yet this displacement removes 11 320 LCAs from the ranks (the only fleet I looked at). Maybe those guys will work really hard...only to be moved back to the right seat. There is a lot yet to come, and as much as Carlson wishes he could push a button and make all the names move to where he wants them quickly, it just never seems to work out that way...

I don't recall many folks taking a voluntary furlough...quite a few went back into the military rather than toil away as a junior FO on bankruptcy pay...

If your a junior NB CA if you can stomach it bid the other NB right seat. This requires a full training course vs. short course (jumping the trash bag). That would certainly create an unexpected log jam I would think.

3-B-3 A Pilot shall continue to accrue longevity when on furlough.

7-G Furlough Pay

The Association shall be advised of a pending furlough. Prior to such furlough, the Company shall offer a Furlough Avoidance Company Offered Leave of Absence (“COLA”) in accordance with Section 12. Further, the Company shall offer a Voluntary Furlough program. The parties shall also attempt to achieve solutions consistent with the Company's needs and the interest of the Pilot group.

7-G-1 A Pilot who has one (1) or more years of service as a Pilot and who is furloughed shall receive furlough pay equivalent to the minimum monthly reserve flight pay guarantee based on the Category flown his last full Bid Period prior to furlough for the period of time specified in the chart....

12-C-2 Furlough Avoidance COLAs

12-C-2-a Furlough Avoidance COLAs offered as provided in Section 7 shall be offered and granted in system seniority order, without regard to Category.

12-C-2-b Furlough Avoidance COLAs may be offered before, after, or simultaneously with an offer of voluntary furlough. If offered sequentially, the Company shall offer both a COLA and a voluntary furlough, if necessary, until full subscription is reached or until there are no more Pilot volunteers, whichever occurs first. If such COLAs and voluntary furloughs are offered simultaneously, Pilots may elect either option.

What if every pilot (displaced and all others as volunteers) bid a new plane that required a full coarse? Wonder what that does to the equation?

Just guessing, but past industry history would make me think that your managment would head to bankruptcy court and then get a judge to gut your contract and force people to train however they see fit. We've sadly seen this movie before.

Weird that never occurred to UAL management in the last bankruptcy, huh?

Actually it did, and it turns out the Railway Labor Act and bankruptcy is not as simple as the company waving a wand.

Thank goodness.
